Learning and Development

We believe career progression is more than just a job title, and should be about continually developing your skills to be the best you can be.
Our view is that whilst we have a responsibility to facilitate your learning by creating a productive environment, each individual should also take responsibility for their own career development too.
- We collect quarterly engagement scores to gather feedback from our employees, and we saw we were falling short in the category of Learning and Development.
- The common theme was that the team wanted to know specifically which skills they needed to develop to enhance their career. So in 2024, the HowNow people team built a Skills Framework.
- The People team worked closely with each manager to help define the specific requirements of every role. Specifically, which skills are required for an individual to succeed.
- We then clearly defined what that skill meant, so our employees knew exactly the requirements. We then mapped out every role that we have at HowNow, the skills required, and what level we’d expect for each role. This gave each individual an understanding of where the skills they needed to develop to improve their career.
- We also followed this up with a process, where each employee documents exactly HOW they’re going to focus on developing each quarter. Whether it be shadowing a teammate, taking on tasks you’ve not done before, undertaking courses, or using HowNow+ to develop your skills.
Learning and Development Budgets
As we’ve already covered, learning can take in many formats, so we offer many different learning opportunities including:
- A Learning and Development budget of £500 in the UK, or £200 in India.
- We've provided teams with group training outside these budgets, such as having speakers around Personal Branding, Senior Tech speakers for our Engineers, a Sales trainer for our SDR team, and group training, such as our Emerge leadership and management training cohorts.
- We offer a range of content on our platform, through HowNow+
You can have a read of the blog below, where we spent some time with our team to understand what and how they learned in 2023.
